Sitting at my new friend Kim’s kitchen table. She’s on her Mac laptop; I’m on mine (Gabe’s). Gabe’s sitting to my left, talking to Kim about the Sky Safari ride that broke at the Bronx Zoo last year. John’s doing dishes across the way. What a great guy!
We’ve had a wonderful day! Up early. Our friends (and hosts) Pete and Angela took us to the cutest coffee house, “Dick and Jenny’s Bake and Brew.” Great food, great conversation.
Then we headed to Niagara Falls (!) for an hour. What a gorgeous, gorgeous piece of work. God is so awesome. We want to go back sometime when we can spend more time. And go to the Canadian side. I was fascinated by all the Buddhist monks in orange. (I kept trying to get Gabe to take pictures of them on the sly.)
Got to the zoo, met Jennifer, the PR director–an OSU grad who grew up just a mile or so from where we live. She gave the girls ride tokens and goody bags. They were thrilled with their new stuffed panda and polar bears.
My favorite part was feeding the giraffes. So awesome.
And I’ll save the rest of the zoo stuff for my Buffalo Zoo Blog Post (in October-ish).
We drove from Buffalo to John and Kim’s in New Jersey (6ish hours) and got here just in time for BBQ chicken on the grill. Yum. Livi and Ava and I played Turbo Yahtzee with Breanna (13) while Kim and I chatted. Nina and Connor (3) played with toys. And John and Gabe talked tech.
Can I just say that I absolutely love it when we meet new people and feel like we’ve known them forever?
Then ice cream, bed for the kiddos, and now we’re chatting the night away. And if this post is the most boring (or disjointed) one you’ve ever read, it’s because I’m trying to join in the conversation while I type. And I am SO bad at multi-tasking.
Up early in the morning for the Bronx Zoo. Woohoo! We’re excited!
Oh, and side note. Did you know they have bears in New Jersey? I didn’t either! Bears! In New Jersey! John and Kim see bears all the time behind their house, in their yard. Livi was kind of scared to go to sleep, but she’s out like a light now. And not just bears, but deer, beavers (!), snapping turtles, rabbits…
Okay, time to wrap this up. I don’t even have any idea what I just wrote. Gabe told me earlier today that half of what I tweet isn’t “tweet-worthy.” He warned me that if I’m not careful, I’m going to lose a lot of followers. Who died and make him Tweet King, I’d like to know.
So, please don’t quit following my blog based on this one lame post. John and Kim, you deserve so much better. You rock! Thank you so much for your hospitality and friendship!
Okay, going now… Have a great Thursday, friends!
