she muchly hearts giraffes

I’ve never participated in one of Kelly’s “Show Us Your…” deals, but this time I thought, what the hey? And I’m a day late, but what the hey? I heart giraffes!

Here’s me in my new Land’s End giraffe tunic that some anonymous darling person sent me in the mail yesterday. The zip code on the postmark was 14424, and after some google sleuthing, I know you live in or near Canandaigua, NY. Whoever you are, may God dump blessings on your head.

This darling giraffe-print canvas M was a gift from my darling friend Amy (and discovered by my equally darling friend Mary Kate).

Feeding giraffes–one of my favorite things to do in all the world. That’s my cool t-shirt that Nick atΒ  Zooshirts.com sent me. And this is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO.

These awesome giraffes are from Kenya where my awesome mother-in-law has been 2 times in 2 years to tell people about Jesus and help them build an orphanage and school. Read about her ministry at this crazy-cool website Gabe just designed for her.

This picture makes me GRIN A MILE WIDE.

I heart journals and Scrabble letters too, especially when the journal has giraffes on it, and the Scrabble letters spell G-I-R-A-F-F-E. The blue journal was a gift from my friend Kristen, the giraffe-print one was a gift from my friend Amy, and I bought the one on the right at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park.

My favorite pic that Gabe took on the whole Zoo Trip. I plan on printing it out huge someday.

A little peek at my desk. The giraffe instrument was a gift from my MIL from Kenya. The plastic giraffe was a gift from my fabulous friend Holly. The giraffe bank was $4.99 at the Maryland Zoo. And I made the Zany For Zoos frame.

Bottom line? I have some amazingly wonderful and generous friends, family and anonymous buddies.

Besides giraffes, I also love vintage aprons, linens and quilts, old books, words, Scrabble letters, and the letters M and T.

I checked out a few of the other collections on Kelly’s post, and my favorite was this gal who collects Yellow Books (not the phone book, but books that are yellow). Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Thanks for indulging me! Have an awesome weekend, friends!

We have a giraffe from Kenya too! How funny…..wasn’t sure if it was going to make the cut when it comes to what goes to Singapore and what doesn’t. May have to hold onto it. It will certainly remind now of a new cyberfriend!

Marla….I love that you love giraffes! That is so fun! The pic of you kissing the giraffe makes me smile…very cute. You definately need to blow up the pic of the giraffe that Gabe took. If you have a Costco near you (think that might be a Sam’s Club in your area…Costco here) you can get the picture blown up nicely. I did one for my mom for Christmas of all of us at our last photo shoot. I was really impressed with the quality, clarity, and sharpness of the photo.

Your blog is super cute! I love that you collect giraffe stuff! I like the letter that is super cute! I took my little girl to the Batimore zoo last spring and she was able to feed a Giraffe! It was sooo fun! Your blog is sooo cute….
    Summer :0)

Enjoyed your blog, Marla. Be careful when kissing those
Giraffe’s, sweetie. One might just take a bite of your
nose or ear. That was so sad about the whale trainer
in Fl. Your friend sounds like a friend of mine who lives
in Tucson. She sent me a beautiful angel (that looks alot
like my Andrea) made out of stained glass. She has
many pieces and I will cherish this forever. Take Care
& hope to see you all soon. XOXO

Great pictures of a beautiful collection. Thanks so much for sharing and so thankful you did ‘get to the bottom’ of your wonderful surprise package. How fun!!!!
Blessings to all of you today and always,

Thought you’d get a kick out of this…Billy told me this morning, and I quote, “That Marla is so good – I can’t believe she got that out of me.” Oh Billy!! πŸ™‚

  9. Amy

Marla – I love that you shared all your giraffe stuff…love it! It seems as if lately, you are in the business of getting people to reveal their secrets (ha! ha!). BTW – Sam’s club has great prices on developing big pics…let me know!! Love you!!!

Haha! Oh, that was so much fun. What clue gave it away? I am such a bad secret keeper! When my husband threw our old Scrabble game in the trash (I found a deluxe edition at a yard sale) I saw it as a sign that I just HAD to mail you a package. I couldn’t let those letters go to waste! Making your day more than made my day. Even though you weren’t supposed to blog and find out who I was! ((hugs))

I know who you are, beautiful girl. πŸ™‚ And I love you. So much that I’m not going to post any pictures we took of ourselves in U.P. Michigan one summer years and years ago. πŸ˜‰ THANK YOU for my shirt, the Scrabble letters, the yummy lip gloss, and your sweet, sweet heart. YOU ROCK.

Our moms were good friends, and went to Grace Chapel together. I have actually played a few facebook Scrabble games with your mom. πŸ˜‰ It’s been a while though, as my little guy went off to Kindergarten and I started working full time (hence the Canandaigua) and I just don’t make time for fun and games like I should. Ok you’re right, the Airheads clue was pretty obscure, I just remember the huge brown bag of them fondly. πŸ™‚ I do want to tell you, I do! But won’t that take out the fun of it?! <3

  13. Marla Taviano

Well, if you can’t keep a secret, you might as well stop torturing yourself, eh? Did you go to my high school? In between Josh and Bethany maybe? The Airheads clue did nothing for me (except give me a complex). YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO TELL ME.

I am the WORST surprise keeper. EVER. I’m the person who gives Christmas presents before Christmas because I can’t stand the suspense. haha! No, we didn’t go to college together. We knew each other when you were in high school. So I guess it’s been longer than 10 years. To be honest, we didn’t really know each other THAT well, after all, I’m younger than your brother! πŸ™‚ Here’s a TINY hint. I cannot see Airheads candy without thinking of your family. MMMMM, yum.

Yey! You got it! And it fits you! Yes, I work in Canandaigua, NY. (And live pretty close to it as well) I spend many many lunch hours at the Salvation Army, my favorite store on Earth, and a few weeks ago I saw this shirt. I immediately thought of you, even though I don’t think we’ve seen each other in over 10 years. I read (and love) your blog. I didn’t buy it right away, but for a couple days it kept popping back into my mind and when I went back it was still there. I hoped it would fit someone (not really Gabe though, haha), and I am SO EXCITED that it fits you! I went back and forth as to what to write in a note and was very hesitant about leaving it anonymous. What if it got lost? How would I ever know you got it? But oh how much fun it was this way! So you made my morning, truly, posting all this excitement. My heart bursts with joy knowing I made you happy. So, Miss Marla, have a wonderful, wonderful day. And pass it on (not the shirt, the secret)…I can’t tell you how much fun it is! πŸ™‚ xoxo

    Your giraffes are adorable!

Your collection reminds me, I’ve been looking lately for things with jackals on them . . . and they’re proving IMPOSSIBLE to find. Amazing. You’d think they’d be available with giraffe stuff and other African animal stuff, but nope.

  17. Gretchen

My mother lurved giraffes. I have a wooden giraffe pendant of hers, & I’m gonna let my daughter wear it for her famous person (African) presentation. Great shirt! Beautiful animals. Course, I still love Orca, despite that terrible accident @ SeaWorld.
