hair accessories! (super-duper september)

Like Jessica (there’s still time to order some of her yummy-smelling Scentsy!), Christy is part of my family because one of my male relatives had the sense to marry up. (Love you, Brian!) Brian is my cousin, and the two of us had the best time growing up. I’m so glad he married someone awesome and they made such cute babies together.

Christy is crazy-talented. She’s got this eye for fashion, and then she can take what’s in her mind and ACTUALLY CREATE IT WITH HER HANDS.

Uh-MAY-zing. Let’s meet her!!

Me: Christy!! Tell us about yourself!

Christy: I remember being asked this exact question in my first interview for an internship when I was in college. I had no idea how to answer it then, and 16 years later, I still am not sure how to answer it. So, let’s see…My name is Christy. I grew up in California – lived there for 18 full years. I then decided that college would be a great time to move across the country, so I ended up at Trinity International University in Chicago. I quickly met my amazing husband and we not-so-quickly got married (5 years of dating and being engaged).

We enjoyed living in the Chicago area for several years and then moved to the Indianapolis suburbs 6 years ago. I got pregnant with our first child, Emmett, who was born in October 2007. His little brother, Preston, came along in September of 2009 and little sister, Ella Grace, made her debut in August of 2011.

To characterize myself quickly…I’m a follower of Jesus Christ, wife to an amazing husband, mom to three wild kiddos, passionate about natural childbirth and breastfeeding and just beginning my journey into homeschooling.

Me: When/why did you start making your headbands?

Christy: I just started making headbands in April of this year! I bought Ella Grace a couple of gorgeous headbands for Christmas and kept drooling over new designs all Spring. I wanted so badly to buy her some more but just couldn’t justify the expense at the time. I have an entrepreneurial spirit, I love fashion, design and working with textiles so I quickly realized I should be making and selling headbands, not buying them.

Me: I love the name of your business: Noelle Grace Designs. How did you come up with it?

Christy: Noelle is my middle name and Ella Grace’s middle name. Grace is obviously part of her name. I wanted girls of ALL ages to wear my creations so I gave it part of my name and part of hers. (Click here to see pics of some hot mamas wearing Christy’s designs–including Beaded Crosses Jen.) Plus, that domain name was available and some others that I may have liked better were not.

Me: How much time is involved, and how do you make it work with 3 little ones at home?

Christy: I have no idea how much time is involved. Really. I’m sure some weeks I spend 20 hours and others I spend 10. I could probably spend 80 and that still wouldn’t be enough. Having a business of your own isn’t just about making something. If you’re selling online, it’s taking pictures, editing them, creating listings, marketing yourself, coming up with new ideas, sourcing materials, customer service…

I make it work because I have an amazing husband who regularly helps out with the kids so I can work on my business. Other than that, I spend their nap time working and most evenings after they’re in bed are spent in my craft room or on the computer.

Me: Any words of inspiration for other mamas of little ones?

Christy: Having your own business isn’t easy, whether you have little ones at home or not. Even if it’s from home and you love what you’re doing. That said, if you have a great product or service the key is marketing and customer service. If you want to succeed you have to market yourself better and provide better customer service than most others out there. If you don’t, you’re going to get lost in a sea of people who are doing the same thing you’re doing.

Me: Anything else up your sleeve in the days/weeks ahead (other products, new styles, etc)?

Christy: YES! I think there will always be something new up my sleeve. I’m currently working on a line of products to complement my headbands. In the next month or so you’re going to see flower embellished lace petti rompers and tutus that will be perfect for parties and/or photos. In the next couple of weeks you’ll see some more Fall/Halloween headbands and soon to follow will be Christmas headbands!

(That last little cutie is Brian & Christy’s Ella Grace Noelle herself.)

I would buy some of the fabric headbands for our baby girl. She should be here in just two weeks! Can’t wait to get all girly. 🙂

  2. Tiffany

If I won the $25, I would get the shabby fabric flower and probably the pleated headband, (Island blue)! I already love the products that I have gotten from her! 🙂

  3. Lesley

If I were going to buy something I would get the chevron headbands but if I really won I would probably let my sister-in-law pick something out for my niece.

  4. Dana

Seeing a mother start up her own business and be so successful is very inspiring. Making tutu’s has been a hobby of mine for the past couple of years and I am told often that I should sell them but I am just afraid it won’t work out. Seeing her success makes me want to put myself out there and give it a shot. Way to go Christy!!!!

I have been choosy about what I wanted to win! I have been wanting to get Anna some of these cutie headbands! Pick me, pick me!

I have never commented on your blog before, but these headbands are too cute to pass up! I love all the giant flower ones; I have a five month old baby girl, and they would be adorable on her!

I’m eye-balling Christy’s stuff for Christmas presents this year. So I love the “Purple, Hot Pink & Yellow Flowers” headband from my little sister Julia, something purple and blue for my little sister Katie, the “Bright Blue, Hot Pink & Aqua Shabby Flowers Headband” for my little bitty niece and I would get another double shabby rose headband for myself (not sure what colors yet). Yeah… that’s more than $25.00 worth 😉

I’d get the AVA Headband (pretty in pink). Marla: I was hoping to see a pic on Christy’s site of YOU modeling some headbands 😉

As a mom of three boys and then a sweet girl – I adore cute, fun, frilly headbands – so much so that I started making them but decided to put them in a box for now, as my 31 business continues to grow. I like the taupe and leopard headband (for me!) and also the fuchsia plum simple headband. I love wearing flowers in my hair! (except that I don’t because I don’t have any)

I just got Christy’s information from a past client of mine who is her neighbor. I think her headbands are absolutely beautiful and I would LOVE to own one for newborn photography and also one for my one year old daugther! Thanks for the great giveaway!
