the high never lasts

I wasn’t even tired when I got home last night. Just floating on a little cloud. I woke up this morning still on it, but it didn’t take long to start slipping off. I held on by my fingertips for awhile there but then just let go. And crashed a little. Nothing major. Just a moody outburst or two five. I think we’re good now.

My fingers are all wrinkly from doing dishes. Ugh. I hate that feeling. I know, I should wear gloves. But I don’t like that either. I’ll just wait for a new dishwasher. 🙂

So, Nina and I were checking out our books at the library today, and the girl at the desk was so sweet. Chatting with Nina about her books and stuff. I had a question about my account and she’d already printed my receipt, so she asked me for my name. When I told her, she looked at me funny and said, “My last name is Glaviano.” Um, deja vu, anyone? “Really?” I said (like she was lying or something). “Does one of your relatives happen to work at Half Price Books?” “Yes, my husband!” What do you know? Her first name starts with M too. In fact, M-a-r-. Next time I see her I’m going to ask her to get a xanga account–mglaviano. No, not really. But I think I’ll give her a copy of Blushing.

We were sitting at supper tonight when a little bug flew right up into my face. I swatted at him, then he disappeared. Reminded me of the Brian Regan clip where he walks into a spider web and no one sees the web, just him flailing around.

“I think he bit me under my eye!” I say to my family. They just stare at me. Sure enough, five minutes later, there’s a little welt under my left eye. Now, here’s the weird thing. I got bit under my right eye this past weekend. I’m wondering if bugs like my BeautiControl under-eye concealer. Or maybe it’s getting so old that it’s fermented and attracting insects. Because I’ve used it for over TWO YEARS now, and it’s still going. Like the woman in the OT who never ran out of oil.

Okay, I just ran up to the bathroom to see how much my tiny tube of concealer holds–just 1/4 of an ounce! And I’ve been using it every day since September 2006! And there was a little mosquito right by the vanity mirror! I think he wanted my concealer! (I smushed him. Don’t tell PETA.)

We’re leaving at 2:00 p.m. for North Carolina. It’s a 6-7 hour trip. Should be fun. The forecast says rain for Friday in Asheboro. If it does rain, it’ll be our first bad weather in 12 zoos. It’s fine with me. We’re flexible. And it will be fun to see how the animals react to the rain.

My lips are chapped, and my lip stuff isn’t helping. Anyone have a favorite chapstick/tube/tub that works really well?

I’m working on a little writing assignment tonight. An old college buddy of mine got me a side job writing 400-word blurbs about various U.S. cities, convincing people they should live there. Working on Houston. If you live there, and there’s something you think I should definitely include, let me know.

Today is National Day of Remembrance for pregnancy and infant loss. Over on Angie’s blog, you can leave a comment if you’ve ever lost a baby–even a really early miscarriage like me. She wants to pray for you. She has 1497 comments so far. She’s going to be busy. You can leave a comment here too if you’d like, and I’ll pray for you.

Speaking of babies, I was looking over my prayer list the other day for people who were trying to get pregnant. I think over half of them are pregnant now. Wow. Praise you, Lord!

This is a LOT of random. I should go pack or something. Have a THRILLING Thursday!! See you all on Monday!

My favourite is Carmex – I have really dry lips and this stuff is the best. I don’t leave home without it! None of those flavoured ones in a stick work for me, this one comes in a really small pot and is the bees knees. LOVE.IT!

PS I just got off the phone with PETA – He’s coming over!

Have fun in NC – love you heaps and chat next week.

I was cracking up at your post!  Hilarious!

My vote is for Burt’s Bee’s…it’s fabulous.  Oh-in a stick of course.

Safe travels!   Have a wonderful time.

@stephaniedawnbasham – LOL to the PETA comment!

I’m a good-old Chapstick girl myself. I like the dark blue Lip Moisturizer kind the best, but Cherry works too. In fact, I was thinking yesterday, “why can’t they make lipstick/gloss that feels just like Chapstick? It’s pretty much perfect.” Too bad it’s not a bit more glamorous. At least it’s pretty cheap.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of what you look like currently. Bug bite under your eye….your eye is probably swollen shut because of the reactions your family gets from bug bites, and then the chapped lips!!

Just kidding…you probably are fine…but this funny image was swirling around in my head. 🙂

Softlips.  You won’t want to be digging into any jars of lip stuff when you’re checking out this world’s zoos, and then smearing it on your lips.  Or maybe you do, but in that case, I also recommend a huge bottle of hand sanitizer.  You can pick the camel hairs off your lip after you apply.

Praying for you tonight and for traveling mercies for you all.  I hope your trip rocks!!!  I’m giggling at your bug story. I hope your bite goes away for all the cool pics you all take at the zoos!  Sneaky little bug.

When my lips hurt badly I use vaseline on them at night before bed.  It works great for rough feet too…with a pair of socks to keep it on your feet all night.

I’m a Burt’s Bees fanatic. If my lips get too bad, I pull out the Mentholatum. Trust me – I am an old lady with dry lips. Who can’t wait until the San Antonio Zoo is your zoo-of-choice for the weekend.

^we just talke about ben & jerry’s & breastmilk today, too.  Something about me drinking beer after the baby is born? Happy Mom, Sleepy Baby Lots of Breast milk–enough for Ben & Jerry to share.  Or whatever.

anyway… way cool about your concealer.   The bambina has super chapped lips, too.  I dunno what the solution is.

    have  a fun weekend!

Good for you making your tiny tube of concealer last more than two years! I’m so proud.

I’m telling PETA about your bug smashing. I think you owe them one gallon of breast milk to use in making homemade ice cream for your atrocious act of hatred toward the animal kingdom.

I hope it doesn’t rain on Friday! Yuck! Maybe I should bring a change of clothes….

Softlips (I only like the cherry flavor) is the key to lip happiness. I’ve used it every day (8 times a day) for ten years. That’s a lot of softlips.

Can’t wait to see you in two days! Love you!

Mmm, this was a good post. I think I might go read it again.
I am addicted to chapstick and some of my favs are 1. Beauticontrol Lip Apeel 2. Blistex medicated (in the green thingy) 3. Soft Lips Vanilla (it has menthol too, makes my lips tingle).
I think that is all. Have a GREAT time! Praying you make it there and back safely!
