12I don’t like fruit.
This statement is shocking to me, because in my mind, I am a fruit-lover.
Yet, I can no longer deny my reality. Someway, somehow, over the course of these last few years, I’ve turned into a veggie-holic who all but shuns fruit.
Gasp.
I also do not like ice cream. But that’s a post for another year.
I’ve slowly, but surely, realized that whenever I serve my family fruit (grapes, apples, strawberries, peaches), I don’t touch it. I’ll choose squash casserole over peach pie. Red peppers over red raspberries. Veggie pizza over fruit pizza. Cauliflower w/ranch dip over pineapple w/marshmallowy cream cheese. Grilled zucchini over frozen grapes.
Anyway.
We spent Sunday after church at Gabe’s parents’ cabin. I ate cucumbers and onions, tomatoes with salt, homemade pickles, and a hamburger with garden-fresh tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Heaven.
On Monday, I had more pickles, a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, more tomatoes w/salt, more cucumbers and onions, and a ham/salami sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes.
(I know tomatoes are technically a fruit. In my book, they’re a vegetable all the way.)
Today (Tuesday)–more, more, more veggies. No fruit.
My stomach hated me (stop the healthy! where’s the junk food?) on Sunday and Monday, but by Tuesday, it seemed to have adjusted nicely.
There is much more fresh, garden-y, vegetable goodness in my future for Wednesday.
I am very, very curious to know if you are a fruit-lover or a veggie-lover. Or maybe you love neither. Or both.
If you could only eat one or the other for the rest of your life, which would it be?
p.s. Doing a radio interview with a station in Santa Barbara, California tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Should be able to listen live at 7:45ish (ET) right here if you’re awake, bored, and have already had your quiet time.

Both! But if I have a choice I choose fruit. My favorite is mango or any type of berry. Although I do love broccoli and squash. Now I’m getting hungry!
I find myself having to force myself to eat veggies! I could eat FRUIT all the time!! LOVE it! I definitely consider tomato a veggie so that I can say I love all fruit.
I love them both, but fruit is definitely my favorite. I love a much greater variety of fruit than veggies. Summer is the best…I love peaches, strawberries, blueberries, plums, pineapple, grapes, plums, pears, kiwi, and of course, apples, oranges and bananas. I really don’t care for much any melon, but that’s about the only fruit I don’t like!
I like both. But to be honest, we rarely have any fresh of either in our house. See, while I like them both, I rarely crave them. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good salad – in fact Ruby Tuesday’s is my favorite place to get one. And I love fruit – especially bananas! Mmmmm! Don’t get me wrong, we eat veggies (love frozen!), but we don’t stock pile fresh.
So I would vote eating fruit the rest of my life, I can do without veggies, but to live without banana’s would just crush me!
FRUIT. This isn’t even a question. Although all the veggie lovers surprise me!
We really need to work on your dislike of ice cream…
Okay have to say I don’t know why the word “there” is in my first sentence on my last comment! LOL Maybe I was thinking another sentence for a while?
Fruit more than veggies and I hate to say that it’s gotten worse after there back-to-back babies. I was scared to eat most veggies while nursing so it’s like I lost my desire for all things green! I’m trying to eat more salads again because I used to love salad but I am eating fruit like crazy. Must be summertime…oh and my weird quirk about fruit? Everything but bananas has to be refrigerated, (very very cold,) to eat it. I don’t like it room temperature! Isn’t that odd? I’m not very high-maintenance I don’t think…
Neither. I enjoy eating apples every now and then, but for the most part, I could cut all fruit and veggies out of my diet and not miss them.
Ice cream, on the other hand, is a different story altogether. Seriously, you don’t like ice cream at all?!
fruit. definitely fruit.
Mmm…I like both, but if I were to choose, I would have to say fruit.
I’m the same way – not a fruit-lover. I do like strawberries and an occasional blueberry muffin!
definitely veggies, which is really odd because i have the most ferocious sweet tooth! so if it were a choice between veggies and chocolate, hands down, chocolate. but you’re asking about veggies v. fruits, so veggies!
I’d eat only fruit if it didn’t result in major bathroom issues.
I love veggies but I practically live on fruit. I’d hate to choose but if I were it would be fruit. Especially summertime. My mind cannot wrap around the idea of someone not eating fruit in the summertime. I’m pretty sure I could eat an entire watermelon myself.
I’m with you on the tomatoes..they are a vegetable all the way. Love them too!
Like eating both fresh and in season, but when forced to choose? The fruit wins(pairing fruit with chocolate is clearly a key factor. While chocolate-covered strawberries are amazing, I just can’t picture chocolaty veggies).
I love both, but would definitley choose veggies if I had to choose one. Raspberries and pineapple, fresh pineapple, are my weekness. I tend to eat my fruit to satisfy my sweet tooth so if I couldn’t do that there’s always junk food right???
Love fruit! However, also love veggies and would pick them over fruit if forced to choose. I am having a moment of sadness for you that you never eat fruit.
I’m definitely a fruit lover. Strawberries are my favorite!
Hey dear.. I don’t like ice cream either!!
And I don’t eat much fruit after buying it. I eat the veggies!!! So we’re more alike than we even knew.
love you
I’m a veggie-lover too. I do like watermelon, cantelope, and the occasional peach though. And I love, love, LOVE strawberry pie and strawberry shortcake…but I guess that doesn’t quite count as a fruit.
