flip and flop

I just had a revelation. But first, a little background.

So, I was feeling a little down over my shoe situation. I know, I know, of all things.

Here’s the deal: I own one pair of heels. I never wear them. I own two pairs of backless ballet flats (black, silver) that have seen better days. I own one pair of black loafers (for lack of a more descriptive term). I own one pair of really old why-can’t-I-think-of-the-word…(legless Uggs is all I’ve got) shoes from American Eagle that are actually men’s and I got them for 50% off a bazillion years ago. I wear them every day, and they’re filthy.

All of a sudden, I’m having shoe insecurity. I know in my heart that no one will judge me if I don’t have cute shoes. But…

If only it were warmer than 30 degrees. I could wear what I wear every single day from late April to early October (give or take a couple weeks). FLIP-FLOPS. Oh, flip-flops, how I miss thee!

And then it hits me.

The place where I’m going? Is closer to the Equator than where I live. Why did this not register to me earlier?

I go to weather.com. I check the forecast.

71 degrees all weekend.

Are you kidding me??

Flip. Flop. Flip. That was my happy little heart. Break-dancing.

I imagine that the natives might think it’s a bit chilly for flip-flops. They thought my girlies were nuts for swimming in an outdoor pool back in April.

Some of you have asked why I’m being all secretive about my plans for the weekend. It’s kind of like this. Sometimes when I’m working on a writing project (usually a book), if I talk about it too much or blog about it too much, it loses steam. For some weird reason, I keep thinking that if I ramble on and on about my big plans, then I’ll have used up all my excitement and momentum, and everything will go downhill from there.

Ridiculous? Perhaps. But it’s how I feel.

I’ll for sure tell you all about it next week when I get home. Sadly, since Techno Hubby isn’t going with me, I won’t have a camera, a laptop OR an iPhone. No contact with the online world at all, really. It will probably be very good for me.

I’ll give you a hint. I’m headed back to a place we visited on our Zoo Trip. Staying with a very special someone(s) that we stayed with before. And spending time with some precious gals I only got to see for a bit last time.

I won’t be going to the zoo (that I know of), but they have a nice one. Even if it did rain the whole time we were there.

I’ve got some posts scheduled while I’m gone, and I’ll be back LIVE(ish) on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend, friends!!

Its in the 70s and 80s here if you want to stop by! Flip flops are totally appropriate (although we are still wearing coats 🙂 In fact, I just bought a way too big house, so next trip through you can all stay here if you need a place!

Praying for you and the great trip you will have. Also praying that Techno Hubby will have a very special time with the girlies. Can’t wait to hear all the details. Love you.

Hmmm, you’ve got me guessing! And given the 71 degrees and flip flops and the special someone(s) you’ll be staying with, those are some valuable clues to this Texas native. And if it’s for what I think it is, then I might just see you there myself!! Cause I’m heading this weekend to a place where it will be 71 degrees, and you’ve so inspired me to possibly wear flip flops. Any pink boas involved where you’re headed per chance??? 🙂

I’m cracking up because Whimzie eluded to the alliteration and I did the other day too…southern baptist girls 😉

I’m back b/c your “Krogerting” ‘toon was HILARIOUS! You have quite the smarty hubs, don’t you!

I have myself wanted use the teeth whitening gel but my teeth are insanely sensitive already and I heard that it can make them sensitive? I’ll pray for your lip to return to normal quickly!!

I hope it’s a weekend of flip flops and laughter and fun regional food in whatever region you may find yourself. 🙂 May you come back refreshed and renewed and raring to go! (I was raised Baptist. Alliteration is what we do.)

Have a great trip! I miss my flip flops too but with snow on the horizon I have to wait just a little bit longer…like three more months!

p.s. Please pray for my lip. Just when I painted my toenails and got my hair cut and decided to whiten my teeth, I had some sort of reaction to the whitening gel, and I have a fat upper lip.

Lord, please let me learn the humility lesson QUICK.

Flip Flops are a necessity at my house. I have them in ever color imaginable.

Have a fun and safe trip. Can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back!

Oh, the blessed flip flop. How my toes yearn for the days of springity weather.

Have a blessed trip, friend! Soak up the stillness and the awayness and the joy of friends.

    Don’t laugh…..

I’m not jealous that you’re going on a trip. Or spending lots of girl time with others. Or that you’re going to go on an airplane.

I’m just plain jealous that you are going to wear flip flops for the next few days. My feet are so done with socks, boots, etc.

So….allow your feet to have some fun for me! 🙂

I hope you have a fantastic time, flip flops or no. And I do think, though very foreign, laying down the technology for a bit can be refreshing. Praying for refreshment in mind, body and spirit. xxxooo
