spring break is not for resting

I had visions of sauntering back to the blog late Monday morning, tanned, refreshed, and ready to face the world.

Ha.

Instead, I’ll be getting up at my least favorite hour (5 a.m.), getting me and 2 of my girlies ready, heading to my mom-in-law’s (90 minutes away) to drop off the sick one (and possibly her sister) and then to a speaking engagement (45 more minutes away), then home again.

Then soccer game #1 of 20 (over the next five weeks) if daughter #2 is feeling up to watching her big sister play. Otherwise, Coach Daddy will be on his own.

And no tan. Even though I did spend 4 days in South Carolina (well, really only 2), I have nothing to show for it except for some severe pollen inhalation issues. No, really, I’m fine.

Here’s our Spring Break in Quick Time:

Friday (April 2): I can’t even remember now. Ah, yes. The girlies and I toured Daddy’s new work, then we went to the zoo (25,000 other people had the same idea that day) for free rides at Jungle Jack’s Landing, then ate at Pei Wei to celebrate our taxes being turned in to our accountant in record time.

Saturday (April 3): We went to our friend Henry’s 2nd birthday party, then headed to Lima (90 minutes away) for Taviano Easter from 3-8pm, then back home for baths and bed.

Sunday (April 4): 9:00 Easter service at church, then headed back to Lima for Easter with Gabe’s mom’s family. Picked up my mom on our way back to C-bus. Packed. Went to bed at 1:00ish.

Monday (April 5): Up at 5:00 a.m. Packed some more. My sister Bethany and my 16mo niece Isabelle arrived at 6:30. All 7 of us (me, Mom, Beth, Izzy, Liv, Ave, Neen) piled in the van and headed to South Carolina to visit Daniel, Steph and Mia. 10 hours later… MET MIA!!! Oh, I could just eat her! Saw my first pollen coating all over the earth, cars, buildings, etc.

Tuesday (April 6): Went to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC for our 4th time. Love that place!! Introduced little Isabelle to GIRAFFES!! Played games, ate yummy food, then Ava got sick (fever).

Wednesday (April 7): More games and fun (Ava still sick).

Thursday (April 8): Pulled out of Steph’s driveway at 5:07 a.m. Got home 12 hours later, due in part to Ms. Van Driver (me) not realizing that 77 and 81 split, and I followed 81 for 35 miles before turning around. Ugh. I like it oodles better when my husband drives (have I mentioned that he drove every single one of our 22,000+ miles on the Zoo Trip?) Took super-fast shower, left the house at 5:40 for a speaking engagement across town, home at 10:30ish. Collapsed.

Friday (April 9): Mom spent the night, so she could stay home w/Ava Friday (I had another speaking engagement, and Ava was still sick). Thank you, Mom!! Both speaking engagements went really well. Filled with lots of super-fun, super-encouraging gals and lots of laughs.

Saturday (April 10): Gabe and Livi went to a KJ-52 concert. He and Gabe are pals (and Gabe designed his website), and Livi had an absolute blast meeting him and hanging out before and after the concert. Ava and Nina and I spring-cleaned and watched a million episodes of Full House.

Sunday (April 11): Church with Livi and Nina (Gabe stayed home with Ava). Then my friend Emily took Liv and Neen home with her for the afternoon. Picked them up at 6:30, ate supper, watched more Full House, put the girls to bed.

Whew.

Lots of pictures to share in the coming days. Probably lots more pictures than words. Maybe I should’ve taken another week off. Sigh.

Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer. I’ll ask Happy Heidi if she’d like to guest post tomorrow.

So, 612 words about me is MORE than enough. How about you?? I’ve missed you! What’ve you been up to this past week??

It was so good (SO good!)to see you today! I have missed you so!! You did awesome as usual, but seemed so pooped when talking to you at th table. Now I know why.

I’m going with the chick who quoted Simon and Garfunkel. Slow down! You move to fast!

Oh, and my MOPS bible study (doing Beth Moore’s Stepping Up)thought of you and laughed! Beth was talking tonight about what if everytime someone complimented you on something (her example: earrings) you gave them item. Then we thought of you whipping off your 7 year old black skirt and started laughing!! (in a good kinda way) 🙂

Actually 32,651 other people had the same plan as you on Good Friday – I saw on FB it was a record-setting attendance day at the Zoo! 🙂 Glad you got to finally meet your niece! Hope you find time for some R&R this week – your spring break sounded crazy! And ahhh…spring allergies. No fun – hope you feel better soon & Ava, too!

Singing a song for you this morning . . . it’s by Simon & Garfunkle:

“Slow down, you move too fast. You got to make the morning last. Just kicking down the cobblestones, looking for fun and feeling groovy.”

I missed you last week and now I’m tired for you after reading your schedule. Whew! I’m looking forward to summer break so we can really relax. Hope all of you are feeling better soon!

Sounds like a crazy week! While Brinley was on Spring break from preschool the week before you, we were dealing with head lice!! Oh the joys of little ones in preschool!!!!! Fortunately, the rest of the family did not get it but we are still dealing with it by daily head checks, changing sheets every other day, keeping all her beloved stuffed animals locked up on bags for another week. I wish lice on NO ONE!!!! Other than that, we are dealing with allergies in NJ and my whole house going green!! Well, not going green in a good way 🙂 The pollen has taken over b/c we have had the windows open, everything you touch has a nice green layer on it. LOVELY! Ahh, the beauty of spring. Enjoy being back to the “Norm” this week!

I’ve spent most of the week in shock about our situation….in a good way!! Things are coming together nicely. I’ll release more details privately as soon as I know more about dates and whatnot 🙂

I am so glad you’re finally back! Does anyone ever have a spring break that’s restful? I know I never do.

Hey-happy anniversary! It’s been a year since you were here, and I wish you were coming back so we could celebrate at the zoo!
