16We’re snowed in. Well, we could probably get out if we really wanted to.
My friend Liz and her two boys were supposed to come spend the day with us today (Monday). We had some super fun stuff planned. Boo.
I was supposed to speak to a sweet group of MOPS gals here in Columbus tomorrow (Tuesday). Boo.
The girls were supposed to be in school, and Nina was going to teach herself Algebra or something while I got some writing done. (Not that I would’ve actually gotten any done. I’m in a big ol’ s-l-u-m-p.) Boo.
I’m ready for spring. I’ve heard rumors that it’s not coming this year. At all. Boo.
I was supposed to be Shredding my muffin top away, but I pulled some muscle in the back of my right knee last week. I took 3 days off, then gave it a whirl this morning. No go. Bummer. Now I suppose I’m going to have to change my eating habits (which needs to happen anyway, as the Shred isn’t really helping). Boo.
I’m just a bundle of optimism today, aren’t I?
I do have one HAPPY. HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY to my beautiful cousin KELLY!! I hate that you live all the way at the bottom of Florida. I love you! I miss you! Hope your birthday is AMAZING!!
Any ideas for something fun I can do with my girlies today? (and if the idea necessitates self-sacrifice and selflessness, please pray for me as you suggest it)

Make a list of all the things you’re going to do when it gets warm outside!
Stay inside and try to sleep through it? I couldn’t do it (obviously) and I can never move North of San Antonio again!
Apparently you can mix glue and shaving cream and food color to make a “cool” texture “paint”….

From my friends page. still waiting to try it!
We used to have Anne-a-thons at my house. I’m sure your day will be great!
Do not EVEN talk to me about this snow. I’m a teensy bit over it. Might make time to blog about that today. Might not. Humph.
We don’t get much snow down in Alabama…though we have gotten it two out of the last three days. CRAZY!
But, when it rains, I like to stay inside…so when I’m taking care of kiddos on those yucky wet days, this is what we do:
–indoor picnic…complete with a blanket and basket…or backback
–Puzzles and board games
–family movie day
–make a fort
–scavenger hunt! make a list of things for kids to find/do and first one to finish gets a prize. You can even put “chores” on the list!
Stay warm!
Thanks, Marla! I have no helpful suggestions for you as far as your snow day. Sorry, I’m high on Dayquil and not feeling too creative. I’m going ice skating for the first time in my life this morning… which probably doesn’t sound fun if you’re snowed in for the 40th time this month. It’s actually cold here too, but without the snow. I’m ready for winter to be over too! I HATE being cold, and it just keeps happening!
MadLibs. I’m sure you could find some online.
Bundle up and head outside!! My boys and I built a snow fort the other day. Really it is just two walls about 2.5 feet tall but the boys were impressed with our work. If you don’t want to be out in it you can raid your pantry and see what you have to toss out to your resident squirrels. Ours LOVE nuts, apples, and I do buy corn for them. The boys have loved watching them find the food we’ve thrown out in the snow and then eating it. We talk about how God is using us to help take care of his animals. And there is always play-doh and and pbskids.org. Good luck filling your day! If you are like me you can start counting down to bedtime around 2 pm (just 5 hours, I can make it 5 hours!).
Boo. That about sums up my feelings this week too. Seasonal Affective Disorder anyone?? Ugh. So OVER this snow.
Oh sweet friend I feel your pain! I am “trying” so very hard to get my schoolwork done, and keep the kids from dying of boardom, all with an unselfish attitude. This did not work so well yesterday.
Today is a new day! I am planning on doing a little Algebra (maybe Nina could help me)
while the kids watch a movie, complete with popcorn. Then we are having a surprise party for Michael’s new stuffed animal Froggy! (He’s a frog) Michael wants to make a cake for the party. I am sure the party will include some kind of craft, a story, and of course a party game. Whew, I guess we have a full day of party planning.
Praying for you as we brave the snow days! {{{HUGS}}}
You could make up your own version of Indoor Olympics….or outdoor Olympics. My brothers and I did this ALL the time when we were younger. We mostly participated in summer game events thought
I’m sure you could come up with some fun Winter ones though.
Snow plow took out our mailbox. I’ll get that check to you as soon as I can safely get to the post office Sorry for the delay. Good luck on the snow-day fun. I’m about out of ideas here.
Oh…..I’m discouraged. How often have you been doing the Shred? I’m also working on my muffin top, but I’m using Jillian’s “No More Trouble Zone’s” workout instead. I heard it was easier on the knees and seemed more targeted to me. I’ve only been at it a week, though. How can it NOT work?
Bake.
I know that won’t really help the whole muffin top situation, but it’s still fun.
When I saw your blog title I decided I HAD to tell you that we’re meeting some friends and going to the Tucson Zoo today in short sleeves.
Lest you fall into deeper despair you can console yourself with the thought that when July rolls around you will be headed to a nice warm zoo and I will be trying to find “cool” indoor activities for my two boys.
Build a fort in the living room and have a picnic on the floor!
Paint fingernails/toenails
Playdough sculpting contest
Indoor Hide and Seek
boardgame-a-thon
Praise Music Dance/Instrument time
paper/glue/glitter cards
Snuggle in bed reading good books
(basically – all fun things I think about doing with my kiddos, but don’t do often enough!)
Let’s see…..
I’d ducktape them all down to the couch, force them to watch old episodes of Little House on the Prairie and The Brady Bunch with me, and then eat nothing but chocolate.
Because calories don’t count on snow days.
But that’s just me.
Have you made the Pioneer Woman’s breakfast puffs? 2 sticks of butter. so good.
Also, we make a tent in the living room and have pirates vs sharks and make ava walk the plank. I know, she is going to be tramautized as an adult.
shoot, I’m late on my blog reading today.
we like to pile up on the couch with all of our library books and snuggle and read.
any empty cereal boxes?? we like to take those and create a new front of the box with our own kind of cereal…Connor’s latest was Mars Munchies “a taste that’s outta this world” and he dug stuff out of the craft bucket to change the box!
You cracked me up when you said to pray if it required your assistance in any way!! Not that I know ANYTHING about that kind of praying, ahem.
You got some great ideas from this post on things to do indoors. Score! I hope it ended up being a great day. How ’bout I go up there for a week to enjoy the snow, and you can come down here and enjoy the sun and my early bloomin’ daffodils?
I pulled a muscle in my side doing yoga like 2 weeks ago and I still haven’t worked out – I swear it hurts too bad! I’m so out of shape! haha
Haha
and I dont mean that in a “I’m laughing at you” sort of way. It’s just that my side is finally starting to feel a little better, and then I partook (is that even a word?) in a snowball fight and now I’m sore all over again! haha – and I’m only 24 — this does not bode well . . .
Yeah, it’s past my bedtime so I’ve got nothing creative for you but I just wanted to tell you that I had to stop Shred because it was KILLING my knees. Granted, I had bad knees to start with, but I don’t think it’s a very knee-friendly DVD. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I don’t even have the Shred, so you’re ahead of me. Sigh…we’ve all had those days, Alexander. I’m late reading this. Hope all is now tickety-boo. xxxooo
