plop.

That’s the sound my loaf of pumpkin bread made a couple hours ago when I tried to get it out of the oven with only one oven mitt on. It slid to the floor and the entire top half popped up in the air and settled back down into the pan. It’s a mess, but it tastes good. I’ll just serve it in a bowl with a spoon–warm and drizzled with butter–and pretend it’s Pumpkin Crumble.

The pumpkin plop was just the latest in a long line of things that have not gone well this afternoon/evening. I am surprisingly okay with this. Just wondering if maybe I should go to bed before anything else happens.

Before I forget, last night’s chat with the Fully Engaged gals at church went super-well. At least I thought so. They were great and just listened to me talk and talk. They smiled and laughed and I even got them to ask questions at the end. The church bought my books for all of them, so that was fun too. God answered my prayers and then some–I honestly had nothing planned to say, and the Spirit just filled me right up as I went. I love that.

Bible study was great this morning. One thing in particular Beth said just hit me upside the eyeballs (forehead, whatever). It’s just between God and me, but let me just say He spoke LOUD and CLEAR.

You ever have something happen and you wonder why God would just allow something so…wasteful? We had $350 in a medical savings account with Gabe’s company and didn’t think to fill out our reimbursement forms before he quit. Now it’s too late. The money’s gone. Then I got a year’s supply of contacts in the mail today. The rebate says I had to order the product within 90 days of my last eye exam. It’s been 93. $30 gone. Took the girls to the grocery store tonight. Bought 2 boxes of Capri Sun Waters (among other things), looked at the receipt in the car, they charged me for 3. No way I’m going back in there with all 3 girls during rush hour. $1.99 gone.

Maybe the lesson is–it’s just money. No biggie. Or maybe the lesson is–pay more attention and you won’t lose so much money.

Had a little meltdown this afternoon. Feeling better now.

Tomorrow is Family Fun Day. The girls are off school. My brother and his wife and 3 kids are meeting us at the zoo at 10. We’ll stay for a couple hours then grab lunch. Naps (at our place) for Nina and Gavin. Mom, Dad, Bethany and Stewart are coming after lunch. Chicken tacos/mexican dip/pumpkin crumble for supper. Jess is bringing a real (and most likely undamaged) dessert. I’m excited.

You know what I remembered today? October was supposed to be Adventure Month. Ha! It’s been an adventure all right. Though not quite (at all) what I had in mind.

Gabe has been gone since 2 this afternoon. He went to a Toby Mac concert in Ft. Wayne. He’s not answering his phone and it’s after midnight. Praying all is fine. The girls and I have shared lots of games and giggles (and dip-n-dots) tonight. I like Girl Time.

TTFN! LYLAS! (Don’t get me started…)

OK, I got LYLAS, but TTFN???? Remember, I was in jr. high in the mid ’60’s……….have some pity.

You know, there may be no  lesson ine money thing at all…or maybe that yeah, that really is small stuff, compared to the really important stuff. But, I agree: dang.

Hope Gabe got home okay…if he’s anything like my guy, he does the phone off/later than usual thing occasionally and he turns out to be okay. With you on the worrying, though!
Thanks for your comment last week on my post – you don’t know how much your prayers mean!

The company didn’t mention it because if any money is left in those accounts, the company gets it.  At least that’s the way it worked when I handled that at my old company!

Thanks for the encouragement on my site!

I heard that your 10 year anniversary us coming up…do consider Paris!
I will try to work on launching my idea of you speaking here (missionary wives) in 2008!We would definitely need to combine several mission agencies…

glad gabe and tug got to go together to the concert. tug was excited and i thought it was neat for the brothers to spend some time together! i can tell you’re not  used to gabe being gone all day 🙂

Adventure without drama is boring. This can still be adventure month. And when you look back on it years from now, you’ll just remember the highlights, not the downers. LYLAS, too!

I am so with you on the whole money issue. Our insurance (which supposedly pays 100% of well baby visits and immunizations) is sticking us with a VERY high bill for Noah’s 4 month check up and shots (due to a loop hole in the contract) and refusing to pay for anymore visits or immunizations for the rest of the year (meaning 6 month check up). Then we crashed my parents trailor (didn’t mention that in my blog) and blah blah blah it goes. Needless to say, I hate money and I hate insurance issues and my dear husband is having a breakdown Great is God’s faithfulness…right! Lets hang onto that promise!

Have a wonderful time with your family today. Yeah for fun family days!

will you please make ME pumpkin plop when I come up to visit?  When am I coming?  Hmm…good question.
stinks about the whole money thing.  I h-a-t-e feeling like i’ve wasted money.  i’m sorry, but you are exactly right, it is only money.  you’ll get more and you’ll lose more.

UGH to the money! But good job on having a good attitude about it!

I made a pumpkin cake/bars thing for dessert tonight. My family is coming over for chili and Mexican dip tonight! It’s like we’re living simultaneous lives!

lylas-hahaha!!  i think you should call it pumpkin plop.  either way it sounds divine.  Hmm.

you probably have that pit-in-your-stomach feeling about the wasted money, huh?  It is just money….so…try not to worry about it too much.  I’m with abby.  I wonder why they didn’t bring it up?!?

Have a fun family fun day-that’s so fun!

Pumpkin Crumble sounds like the best way to turn lemons into lemondae

I can’t believe the hr person at Gabe’s company didn’t bring the HSA plan to your attention. I would think that would be part of the leaving the company talk.

Family Fun day sounds wonderful!  Hope you have a great time with all your family.  Pumpkin bread sounds so wonderful no matter how you eat it!  I have a can in the cupboard and should get busy baking one of these days!
