29Welcome, fellow members of The Big Mama Fan Club! Thanks for stopping by! That Melanie sure is something, isn’t she? (oh–if you’re actually here to see me and didn’t just hop over from Big Mama’s, click on over to her site for a minute, then mosey back this way!)
In case you’re wondering, Big Mama and I go way back. To last June where we just about nearly almost met in real life. I (nervously) traipsed on down to Charlotte, NC for a She Speaks Conference (not as scary as I thought it’d be), and a couple of the sessions were on All Things Blogging. Big Mama, BooMama and Shannon Rocks were our fearless speakers, and they did a super job. I got to hug Sophie and chat with her for 31 seconds (give or take 2), but I only admired Melanie and Shannon from afar (and said “hi, nice to meet you” from my seat during a slap-your-knee funny Q & A). But we e-mail, like, all the time now so, see? We’re tight. Mel and I even have the same pink hairdryer.
There are a million-and-one things to love about Big Mama. If you’re one of her faithful readers, you already know all this, but if somehow, you’ve been under a rock (or stranded in xanga-land!–teehee) for the past couple years, allow me to share. Big Mama is brilliant and funny. She’s gut-honest and humble. She loves Jesus, her hubby, her darling daughter, and her friends and family. She writes about things I can totally relate to. Well, except for Fashion Friday (I’m so fashion-illiterate), but somehow, she’s even got me hooked there. Well, and I don’t always get her Deep South references (Tex-Mex, chicken-fried elk, the Aggies, some kind of grocery store about Butts), but I’m learning.
I do understand little girls who are tomboyish princesses. I do understand Target. I do understand Easy Bake Ovens. I do understand “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. I do understand being amazed by God’s blessings. I do understand wanting my life to matter for eternity. I do understand the daily ups and downs of life and finding hilarity in the mundane.
She’s an amazing woman. And a fabulous writer. She puts words together in a way that most of us can only dream of. She can take the simplest, most ordinary thing and turn it into an entire side-splitting post. She makes me laugh. Out loud. With snorts. And sometimes cry. And then laugh some more.
Thank you, Melanie, for brightening my life–way up here in Ohio! Can’t wait to meet you and Girly-Girl at the Zoo (my first time in Texas!) in the spring!
p.s. If you left a comment at Big Mama’s and want an extra shot to win the book of your choice, leave a comment, and you’re in! (just tell me which book strikes your fancy–they’re listed on the sidebar on the right) And you have my personal guarantee that your odds of winning will be better here than over at Big’s.
Have an awesome day, friends!

I would love to win “Is That All He Thinks About?”! I read the excerpt and want to read more.
Thank you for the chance to win!
The last few weeks, I’ve seen your name all over, Marla. So it’s nice to formally “meet” you.
I’m totally intrigued by the “Expecting” book. My sister and sister-in-law are pregnant right now, and Lord willing, I still have at least one more pregnancy in my future. So it would be well used.
Is that all he thinks about! I’d take that one for sure! Great blog, glad I found it.
I’d love “Expecting”!
I would love to read Expecting. I already own and have read Changing the World One Diaper at a Time and Is That all He Thinks About. They are both AMAZING books and I recommend them all to my friends. Is That All He Thinks About really gave me a better perspective on my marriage.
“Is that all he thinks about” is my choice!
I would love “From Blushing Bride to Wedded Wife”. As I was reading what it was about, I kept thinking: yes, yes, yes. I need help with all of those things. (I just got married a year ago).
OHHH I could not make up my mind. I’m really interesting in “Changing the world” and “Expecting” I just had my first child December 6 and am loving every minute of it..well almost every minute (lol).
Love your Big Mama entry! And I love how appropriate all your books are for us girls. I just got married a few months ago, so I’d totally dig your book “From Blushing Bride to Wedded Wife.” Keep up the great work!
I really liked the sound of “Is That All He Thinks About?” Just the synopses themselves struck me, because I find myself caught in a vicious cycle of, “Well if he would, then I would…” Sick, I know. We don’t have children yet, but I know I will definitely get “Expecting” when we do. I so want to have a lifetime devotion to praying for my children, individually and specifically. Thank you!
“Is That all he Thinks About” sounds so enlightening… I would love to read it!
I had commented already but forgot to put my book choice. I really have a hard time with this because I love being a mom but I feel very poor at it so the Changing the World One Diaper At A Time would be nice but the husband if very important so Is That All He Thinks About would also be nice.
Your books sound amazing. I would love to read Blushing Bride to Wedded Wife my boyfriend and I are in deep talks about getting married very soon.
Just found out I’m pregnant with my first, so I would love “Expecting” – thanks!!
This is my first time visiting here. I am anxious to read your books. Even if I don’t win, I would like to get them. I think I would start out with “Is that all he thinks about?”
