what are little boys made of?

Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails,
That’s what little boys are made of.

I have a new nephew! His name is Gavin Isaiah Yoder, and I get to meet him tomorrow! I can’t wait. My brother Josh and his wife Jess added this little blessing to Anna and Ethan yesterday morning. When my third nephew arrives in July (Gabe’s brother Tug and wife Angie) I’ll have three of each. God blessed me with all girls and gave me little nephews in case I ever need a boy fix. 🙂

I do not understand this 1916 Mother Goose rhyme. Why do girls get to be sugar and spice and everything nice, while boys are made of gastropods and animal parts? And what is a snip? That part has been changed over the years. Some versions say snakes, some say frogs.

I just looked up snip at dictionary.com.

  1. One that is small or slight in size or stature.
  2. A person regarded as impertinent or mischievous.

I am most definitely not a poet, but if anyone can think up a NICE and appropriate rhyme for sweet little boys, please let me know!

That’s all for now!
