the hills are alive!

I love the movie The Sound of Music. My older two girls watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago, and they’re hooked. After watching it five times in three days, I made them take a week break. We watched it again tonight up to the intermission.

I think my favorite part is when Maria and the seven kids are traipsing through the meadow, along the river, carrying picnic baskets and wearing play clothes made from the drapes that hung in Maria’s bedroom just the night before. Sigh. What a life.

I am longing for spring. And play clothes that fit. And green grass and edelweiss and picnic lunches and mountains and sunshine and chirping birds and flipflops…

I am trying to be content with life as it is at this moment. Dry, chapped skin. Cold weather. Winter clothes. Infant with a stuffy nose and no sleeping pattern to speak of. A to-do list a mile long. Looming deadlines…

A wonderful, supportive husband. Sweet, funny daughters. A grinning 2-month-old. A new book. A finger (foot) painting with my 3 daughters footprints in three colors of paint dated March 4, 2006. A mom and dad who bought us Donato’s smokehouse chicken bbq pizza for supper. Peace and quiet after a hectic day. A God who loves me no matter what and blesses my socks off time and time again. The first day of spring in less than three weeks. Getting to know my neighbors. Plans to get a dishwasher before May 1st.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes…doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles…wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings. These are a few of my favorite things!

I am blessed, aren’t I?

So YOU are Bethany’s sister!  WOW!  Bethany was one of my closest friends at Grace…and well, here you are!  She’s been posting a lot about your most recent book.  It sounds very helpful…I will definitely be looking into getting a copy!

Hey Marsy! I just got a Xanga and I thought you’d like to know! I got your book in the mail on Saturday and I was SOOOO EXCITED!! I read all of it except 2 chapters on Saturday and I finished the last 2 on Sunday! I brought it to church with me on Sunday and showed it to everyone I knew. Stewart even read the turkey sandwich excerpt to the youth Sunday school class! I’m so proud of you! You did an AWESOME job! It was hilarious, comforting to hear others’ stories, and really encouraged me and challenged me spiritually. I want to go back and read through it again more slowly this time. I rated it with 5 stars on! I love you Marsy! You rock!
