I had an amazing time with my family today. Wow. Thank you, God. Yes, it’s after 1:00 a.m. Bethy, Stephi, Danny and Stewy just left for Mom and Dad’s house. I’m about to fall over, but I feel very warm and full inside. (Full of joy and contentment, not food. Well, that too.)
I’ll blog about our day in a sec, but first I have to share something non-family-related that really touched my heart tonight. There’s this amazingly fabulous woman (whom I’ve never met in real life) named Boo Mama who lives in Alabama and loves fried chicken and Jesus and music (and many other wonderful things) and writes one of the funniest blogs I’ve ever read in my life. She went to Uganda as a Compassion blogger and just melted my heart with her stories. And she is so warm and fun and real and stinking, stinking funny.
Anyway, long story short, I asked her awhile ago if she’d be interested in giving away some of my books on her blog. Lots and lots and lots of people read her blog (have I mentioned how great it is?), and I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to get the word out about my books. Well, she blogged about me tonight, and when I read her kind, funny words, I about cried. (I know it’s laaaaate, and I’m exhausted, but still, I felt all warm and tingly.)
If you’ve got a second, I’d love to have you check it out. Wow, I’m just really humbled and grateful and wow. And I’d love, love it if you’d leave a comment on her site. I read through some of the comments a little bit ago, and some of them are really touching too. And if you can’t tell, it’s really late, and I’m feeling all sentimental and a bit goopy.
About our day… Got up, packed a picnic lunch, got to the zoo at 10:30, walked around for two hours looking at animals and spitting white fuzzy things out of our mouths that are floating all over the sky and taking over the greater C-bus area (what in the world ARE those things?!?!). Ate lunch while we shooed away some aggressive geese (with some nasty digestive issues–ew!!!). Then we rode rides for an hour or so. Oh my goodness, that was so much fun! The train, the swings, the tea cups, the Dumbo ride. The kids were in heaven (and so were the adults!).
Back to our place, opened presents, donned bathing suits (the kids), played in the sprinkler, pizza for supper, lots of playing and laughter, cake and ice cream. Josh and Jess headed home. Gabe, Daniel and Stew went to the Apple store. Bethy, Stephi and I played euchre with Dad. The girls did puzzles with Mom. Stew got out some remote-controlled trucks in the dark. Mom and Dad left at 10ish. The last four left at 12:30.
And here I am. I’ll post some cute pics tomorrow.
I sure do love my family. Dad, Mom, Josh, Jess, Anna, Ethan, Gavin, Stewart, Bethany, baby Stewart, Daniel, Stephanie, Gabe, (me), Livi, Ava, and Nina. (one for each of us–see? i’m loopy.)
Have a great weekend!!
