It’s hard for me to blog when a lot of stuff happens. I know I won’t be able to remember it all (or it will take too long to write about), so I keep putting it off until I forget everything altogether. But my hubby messaged me from work a little bit ago asking me when I was going to blog again. Apparently, he’s dying to know what’s been going on in our lives the past few days–even though he was here for all of it. 🙂 I think he just wants a recap.
Friday afternoon, we went to my mom and dad’s and ate pizza, crab-artichoke dip (thanks, Courtney!), and lots of homemade goodies. My sisters and I played euchre with our dad while the younger menfolk talked about computers. Livi and Ava spent the night at Mom and Dad’s with Stew, Bethy, Stephi and Daniel. Gabe and Nina and I went home (we had to get the Christmas gift calendars that had been delivered that evening) and came back at 10:00 Saturday morning.
My whole family was there for brunch, gifts and Christmas dinner–Mom, Dad, Josh, Jess, Bethany, Stewart, Stephanie, Daniel, Anna, Ethan, Gavin, and the five of us. It was wonderful. Good food, funny kids, trying not to think about Stephi moving to South Carolina next week. 🙂
Saturday night, Livi wasn’t feeling well and Nina was up a lot, so we opted for the 11 am worship service instead of our regular 9:00 one. I stepped out of the shower at 9:40, and Gabe tells me, “Uh, there’s only one service today–it’s at 10.” We did make it to the 4:00 Christmas eve candlelight service.
We surprised the girls with dollar store stocking stuffers on Christmas Eve, then ate tortilla chips and sweet onion salsa and drank sparkling strawberry juice.
We were up at 6 am Christmas morning. Joy. Gabe read the Christmas story, and the girls opened their gold, frankincense and myrrh gifts. Loved them. Especially the LHOTP dresses. Nina’s newest thing is to cheese for the camera. I could just eat her–especially in her Carrie Ingalls dress.
Got everything packed and left for Gabe’s grandpa’s house around 11. Ate his mom’s famous lasagna for Christmas dinner, opened gifts, then went back to his mom and dad’s house. Exchanged gifts with Rock, Janelle, Tug, Angie, Morgan, Reese and Tanner. The girls were so excited. Janelle and Angie loved their calendars. Rock and Tug loved their Buckeyes t-shirts. We got a new set of luggage–our first ever. I want to go somewhere incredible.
I braved the stores last night at 9:00, mostly because I needed food and diapers. I love it when Christmas candy is half off.
Two boxes of my new book were delivered to my door 10 minutes ago. I have 112, and only 30 or so are spoken for–including ones for those of you who filled out an in-law survey and asked for the sex book as your freebie. You should get it next week sometime. In case you forgot–it’s $10 for the book, including shipping. Message me and I’ll send you my address. Gabe’s almost finished reading it, and he really likes it. 🙂 He said he can officially endorse the book now (per the fake quote on the back cover).
Livi wants her own copy of my book. She’s standing by my computer begging right now. I gave her Blushing instead. “Why can’t I have one of your other ones? Please?! For my very own?” No. I need them all. “I’ll give it back after I’m all done reading it.” Uh, no. I need to hurry up and write another book. A kids’ book.
I ordered a book from Amazon over a month ago called Preparing for Jesus: Meditations on the Coming of Christ, Advent, Christmas and the Kingdom. Was so excited to read it during the month of December. It arrived yesterday.
Our tree is down, our decorations are packed away. I’ve never done it this early before, but I’m so over Christmas this year. I’m actually looking forward to January and February, months I usually really dislike.
The girls and I are making their basement playroom beautiful–a princess hideaway. More details and pics to come.
