EDIT: OH, THE IRONY! In 7 years of mothering, this has never happened to me. Not once. Then the day my Diapers book arrives at my door… Nina just came up from the living room, distraught. “Sumpin happened! Sumpin happened!” Chocolate all over her fingers and shirt. No, POOP all over her fingers and shirt. She stuck her hand down her diaper then freaked out, tried to wipe it on her shirt. I know this happens to other people (I even wrote about it in the book) but this is my first time! YUCK!
It’s crazy days like these when I jump-&-shout praise the Lord for xanga. I’m always thankful for it, sure, but some days I’m just bursting at the seams and need to LET some of the bubbly OUT. Hence the word “outlet” which is such an appropo descriptor for this blogging community thing. Love you guys!
So I sort of forgot it was Bible study day. Rolled out of bed late. Rushed around. Had to wait for Livi to get on the bus before I could leave (since Gabe isn’t here). Opened the front door, saw something under the welcome mat from UPS. MY NEW BOOK!! No time to celebrate–gonna be late for Bible study.
New plan for my books this go-round. Third time’s a charm, right? No more Little-Miss-Shy, not telling anyone I write books, hoping somehow they’ll figure it out on their own and go buy some. During small group time in Bible study, I asked for prayer requests then asked to share something. Showed them the new book, explained how Blushing went out of print, want to do more to get the message out, think of it as promoting God and not me, gave them all (some already had one from being in my last group) a copy of Blushing as a Valentine’s Day gift. They were so great about it. We got on with our study, then I talked to a few of them afterwards.
Here’s the deal: Blushing sold less than 4,000 copies and went out of print. Is That All is at 6,540 and counting. My goal is for Is That All and Diapers both to hit the 10,000 mark in 2008. I know it’s not all about numbers (and goodness knows, those #s sure are small for book sales!), but each # is a life possibly touched. And in my book (oh, I so didn’t mean that pun), that’s an awful lot of people touched. I’m humbled and grateful. So much so.
And I’m excited about Diapers. I’ve only read the dedication page so far, but I have an idea of what’s in the rest of the book. 🙂 I’ve mentioned before that giving someone a marriage book could be taken as an insult by someone in a struggling marriage. But giving someone a book about baby’s first year is just saying–“Hey, I know you have a baby/are going to have a baby–here’s a fun book for you!” And then God can use His truths in the pages to impact their lives. Wow.
I had so much other cool stuff to say. Guess I’ll do that tomorrow.
I’m going to need your help, girls! Marketing ideas, having you send out an e-mail blast (that I send to you) to all your family and friends, spreading the word. You and me changing the world, one… yeah, we get the point. Just waiting until I get the books. WHICH IS GOING TO BE IN A COUPLE DAYS. It’s going to release Feb. 19th instead of March 1, and I should have 150 copies at my door by the 17th. Happy day to ME! I can’t sell/pass them out until the 20th, but I’m getting your mailers ready, you free-book winners, you!
And you can pre-order now on my site. How many times can I say… I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO SEE WHAT I WROTE ABOUT ALL OF YOU!
If I don’t go now, this will be the longest blog I’ve ever written in my life. Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! XOXOXOXOXOXOXO!
