This is Margaret. We call her “Brownie.” She calls Gabe her “boyfriend.” She says he’s a rare find–a young man who has the time and patience to listen to “an old woman.” I told her this weekend that if she were in her 60’s I might be jealous. But since she’s 83, I’ll let it slide.
Margaret and I go way back. Her husband was the pastor of my grandparents’ church when I was little–First Regular Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, Ohio. When Gabe and I lived in Bellefontaine (2004-2006), Margaret would order books from me, and Gabe would deliver them. That’s when the “affair” started. An errand that should have taken 15 minutes stretched into an hour. “Oh, we were just chatting,” he’d say. Likely story. 😉
I might have to interview Margaret on my blog sometime. She’s a riot. And one of the sweetest, spunkiest, godliest young women I know.
On Friday night, Nina’s friend Kara came over to hang out with us in lieu of sitting through her daddy’s three-hour graduation ceremony (Vineyard Leadership Institute). Congratulations, Brian! The girlies had fun being together, and I had fun eating the still-warm chocolate chunk cookies Kara’s mommy brought me (us) from Max & Erma’s. Bless you, Kim!
On Saturday, we spent the day with a bunch of my extended family at my mom and dad’s house. Mom, Dad, Brownie, Grandpa, my niece and nephews, my aunt and uncle from Florida, two other aunts, another uncle, five cousins, two cousins-once-removed and two girlfriends-of-cousins. I think I got everyone.
Here’s my grandpa (Mom’s dad) with some of his great-grand kids.
We played Red Rover and Four Square, climbed trees, blew bubbles, ate grilled hot dogs, played Upwords, laughed and chased, giggled and tickled, and took lawnmower rides. A perfect day.
We leave Tuesday afternoon for Buffalo, New York. Z-O-O-S, here we come! I’m going to try to write up something for the San Antonio and Memphis Zoos from our last trip (can you say slacker?) and schedule them to post while we’re gone. So, don’t get confused when you see us in Texas and you could have sworn we were going to Philly.
God has provided for this East Coast trip in a big way, and I hope you’re not sick of me praising Him because PRAISE HIM!! He is so good. And so right on time. Every time.
So, you know how I blogged about Sunny, the gal who “discovered” me and made my first published book a reality? I hadn’t heard from her in a long time, and this week she just “happened” to be looking for my contact information and found the blog posts I wrote about her. And commented as “This is Sunny…” (even though it’s not her real name). I love it! And God’s doing something really cool in Sunny’s life these days. I’m going to talk to her about doing an interview on my blog, because I think some of you might like what she has to say. Love you, Sun!
We’re up to 128 party guests for August 1 at the Zoo. Woohoo! And the door prizes are rolling in–$10 Starbuck’s gift card, $10 Graeter’s gift card, a signed copy of America’s Best Zoos, 4 tickets to the Cleveland Zoo, some really cool hair accessories, and I can’t remember what else right now. When we get back from the east coast, I’m going to take all of y’all up on your generous offers to plan this shindig.
If you want to follow our live updates from the zoos this week, follow me on twitter or add me as a friend on facebook (see side bar).
Have a great week, friends!
