your priorities {enough, day 14}

Hello, friends! Thought we’d take another little purging break (But keep purging if you want! I am!) and talk about our LIFE PRIORITIES for a minute. Because honestly? That’s why we’re doing this de-cluttering thing.

To make time and space and energy for the things that matter most in our lives.

A couple mornings ago I was writing in my journal and thought to myself, “What things are most important to me right now? If I had to narrow it all down to 10, what would they be?”

And here’s what I came up with. (This is totally a rough draft, may need tweaked, but let’s work this all out together, shall we?)

My Priorities (in no particular order):
1. Keep Gabe healthy.
2. Know Jesus more.
3. Get out of debt.
4. Save $ for a trip to Cambodia.
5. Love my neighbors.
6. Learn Khmer.
7. Write blog posts/e-books about my passions.
8. Help my girls find their passions.
9. Seek justice for the poor.
10. Disciple/inspire a handful of people.

I could flesh each one of these out (and I may do that on another post or just for myself) to see what each one involves. I could maybe combine some of them. Maybe I forgot some things? Lots to think about. I’ll be working on this.

What are some of your priorities–the things that really matter to you?

Here are a few of my priorities for the next year in no particular order. I pray by God’s grace I will be able to live my life in line with them.

Loving my Jesus and letting Him love me
Loving the person I find next to me
    Keeping myself healthy
Giving back to JFA http://jfaweb.org because their training changed my life
Encouraging women to embrace children as a blessing (specifically those that find themselves in crises pregnancy situations)
    Saying yes to God
    Not worrying about tomorrow

    Marla,
I am going to do this today! Yay. I love it. I have needed this simple yet important and impactful exercise to help me focus on my daily activities. It is so easy to get distracted from my purpose and focus on time filler things that have nothing to do with the direction I want my life to go. And then I wonder why I am not doing the things God has called me to do. I can’t wait to do this!!

I haven’t been keeping up with the specific daily exercises here because of well just life stuff…but I do daily put things in my bags that I am getting rid of. Here is the thing that is happening to me…I am accumulating bags of stuff and not sure if I should go through it and separate it to give to goodwill or have a garage sale or give to someone else….so now I have a mess of bags in my room frustrating me!! haha Help!

My top ten priorities in no particular order:
        1. Go to God first in times of frustration, anger, hurt, confusion, stress, and even joy.
        2. Have someone read what I have already written for my book and then finish it (and hopefully publish it).
        3. Physical health.
        4. Write on my blog weekly.
        5. Help Madie be an adult (she has Asperger’s and just turned 18. She is struggling daily and “hates” everything about her life. It just breaks my heart and sometimes scares me).
        6. Help my three children find their passion (I love that one. Thanks Marla.)
        7. Create a budget and STICK to it. Pay my bills on time.
        8. Live with less.
        9. Serve in my church.
        10. Stick with my goals and passions (I give up out of fear…such as writing my book, my blog, my non profit, teaching).

Oh, friend. These are so, so, so good. LOVE. As for what to do with your bags o’ clutter, lately I’ve just been taking everything to the thrift store. Making other choices about it is too much for me to deal with. Don’t feel guilty if that’s what you decide to do. xoxoxo

This has had me thinking a lot…still thinking, but here are some priorities

    1. My relationship with Christ
    2. My relationship with Kevin
    3. educating my girls
    4. advocating on behalf of Compassion
    5. living simply and sharing the message with others (blog)
    6. nurturing creativity (music and photography)
    7. staying healthy and fit
    8. family time

Tough question today. I’ve been pondering it of and on, and I have very little to offer. My top priorities are

Making time for the people in my life
Being authentic, living fully in the moment
Being a blessing to those around me

Adding that last one scares me, but I can’t not add it. It is a great responsibility to want to be a blessing, but not naming a way to control HOW I bless people. As if I’ll be asked (by God, I suppose) to bless people in ways I am not prepared to or able to. I’m not sure that makes sense. It’s a strange fear, one I cannot explain fully, and is very clearly wrapped up in some of my greater anxiety issues.

That makes PERFECT sense, and it’s something I’ve struggled with since moving to Abbey Lane. God has been gracious to me in giving me “easy” and natural-to-me ways to be a blessing. (Whew!)

sadly, i think i would have 2 different lists between what my behavior suggests my priorities are versus what my head wants to say.
    *jay’s salvation
    *paying off our mortgage
    those make both lists.
