we want your hand-me-downs!

The title of this post would’ve made me nervous back in the day, but we’ve all been around the block together with this giving-to-the-poor thing, and I think we’re good, right?

YOU PEOPLE ARE FREAKING AWESOME.

(If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, take a few minutes to read Dear World, Let’s Stop Giving Our Crap to the Poor and Let’s Give Our Best, Shall We?)

Remember our bottom line: Are We Loving Our Neighbor As Ourselves?

If it’s not good enough for me, it’s not good enough for my neighbor.

I am a HUGE fan of thrift stores and bargains and libraries and FREE THINGS myself, so I am a-okay with sharing gently-used things with our friends here in Cambodia (it frees up our money to give other things!).

And some things just make flat-out sense to buy (or be given) used. And I’m going to make a list of those things in this post.

(Please hear me. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO BUY ANY OF THESE THINGS NEW. I’m not kidding. If you don’t already have these things and want to give something for the center, I HAVE ANOTHER LIST OF THINGS YOU CAN BUY. Things like candy and fruit snacks and lip balm and crayons and coloring books…)

(We also have an Amazon Wish List for the center.)

(And we will gladly accept gift cards to places like Target, Lakeshore Learning, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon.)

Are we clear??

My 2 requests for these hand-me-downs:

1.) Please, only GENTLY-USED items. (No rips, tears, holes, stains, broken/missing pieces, okay?)

2.) Shoot me a fb message or email before you send anything to make sure we don’t already have enough of that item.

Thank you!

Here are some previously-loved things we’d like to bring back to Cambodia with us:

Toys/Games:

  • play food (wooden is preferred, then plastic, no cardboard)
  • brown baby dolls
  • dollhouse furniture
  • Legos
  • blocks
  • Hot Wheels
  • car tracks
  • card games
  • Jenga
  • small toys to use as prizes (animals, figurines, whatever)
  • puzzles (up to 100 pieces) (can put in plastic baggie with picture cut out of box)

Teaching Stuff:

  • stickers (sheets of stickers with some missing? perfectly acceptable.)
  • anything (non-electronic) that teaches ABCs (magnets, flashcards, toys, games)
  • board books (durable, easy words)
  • music theory books
  • easy piano & guitar books

Miscellaneous:

  • cute, like-new kids’ clothes size 2T to 14
  • small, unbreakable plastic containers
  • packing supplies for The Dancing Elephant (boxes, bubble wrap, padded envelopes–we can cover up old addresses easy-peasy)

I’m really excited about this, because I think it’s a great way to be resourceful and good stewards and save money. And it’s a fun opportunity for anyone who has wanted to give but just isn’t in a position to give $.

Remember–shoot me a message or email before you send stuff (also, I’ll give you an address to ship to). There will also be several drop-off spots if you’re local (Gabe’s parents’, my parents’, our friend Pam’s).

Or you can BRING IT TO US PERSONALLY on July 16 in Columbus for our Big Walk Against Traffick. (It’s going to be a BLAST!)

THANK YOU SO MUCH, FRIENDS!!

You know I have lots of stuff to give away. ;D
I’ll recheck the list and the condition of my stuff. (And whether I can find it)
Don’t know if we’ll get to see you when you come. We’ll be on vacation around then.

You’re so sweet! We’ll be in the States from June 8 to August 8. Will you be on vacation that whole time? If yes, AWESOME for you!! But we’ll miss seeing you!
