the hole in our gospel

Gabe went to a conference last year and brought back a copy of the book, The Hole in our Gospel. “I think you’d really like it,” he said. I nodded politely and put it in some random pile somewhere. A few weeks later, I “accidentally” ran across it while I was looking for something else and opened it up and began to read.

The rest is history.

I pretty much read the whole thing beside the pool this summer while the girls were taking their swimming lessons. I marked it all up with my purple pen–asterisks, notes, underlining, the works. And then we went to Cambodia. And then I read Radical.

And well, God is messing me all up, and this book played a role in it.

Fast forward a few months. I meet this really amazing gal named Kathleen online. She’s always encouraging me and praying for me and writing me notes. She sent me that adorable globe ornament that I was holding in my hand here. She’s the one who inspired the Cambodia Photo Cards (a friend of hers had been to Cambodia and made some).

A couple weeks ago, she sent me a copy of The Hole in Our Gospel. And some money. She said she knew I’d already read it, but she wanted to give me money to buy some more copies and then use them somehow to raise money for Cambodia. That way, instead of just giving me $, she’d essentially be helping ignite a passion for the poor in some other folks as well.

If God has given you a heart for the poor and oppressed in our world, you will LOVE this book. If you’re not feeling that passion at the moment, this book just might light a fire under you. I considered doing it as a Read-Along, but it’s pretty long, so I’m hesitant. We’ll see.

THE BOOKS ARE ALL GONE! THANK YOU!

So. Today. Six of you have the opportunity to donate $12 to our Cambodia Fund. And as a thank-you, I’ll send you:

1.) a copy of The Hole in our Gospel and

2.) your choice of a daily action planner, interactive study guide, or dvd (I have 2 of each.)

First come, first served. E-mail me if you’re interested. (shipping to U.S. address included in the $12)

Our Cambodia Fund is at $3882 on our way to our February 28 goal of $5000. We’ve got a few ideas up our sleeves, but we’d love to hear yours too! Here’s a sneak peek of what we’ve got going on for Friday…

Have an awesome day!

I was JUST thinking about you a little bit ago! On Friday, there will be TWO posts–one at midnight and one in the afternoon sometime. I’ll try to give you a heads-up. 😉

Marla….I love the message in this book. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. I am reading it right now and somedays I can only get through two pages because my heart can only take in so much! I would love to help your Cambodia fund. If you have any Daily Action Planners I will take that. And I will give the book to someone I know will love it. Let me know how to send you the money.

We love scrabble letters too…in fact I have words spelled out with the tiles on the trays throughout our house (give, lead me, i love jesus). My kids and I were at a consignment/antique shop the other day and someone had made a whole bunch of words on the trays and glued them on. She was selling them that way. Some of the trays she had painted. I thought of you…maybe you could offer those as well.

    Have an amazing day!!

Oh, Marla, I LOVE this book! I was JUST listening to it on my iPod as I washed a MOUNTAIN of dishes yesterday, and thinking about how I love the way it makes me cry…Because that means God is softening my heart and changing me to be more like Him! Hmm, now I just have to decide if I *need* a paper copy, too! 🙂
