oh, I would walk 500 miles!

And-uh I would walk five hundred more! Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door! Da da da da! Da da da da!

The Proclaimers, anyone? I don’t believe I know a single other song of theirs.

No, I’m not walking a thousand miles. Nor five hundred. But I’m walking TEN. And so is my whole fam, Lord willing. And I WOULD walk 500 miles if it meant I could help keep some precious, innocent children safe.

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, Gabe, Livi, Ava, Nina, and I (along with lots and lots of other people around the country–even the world!) are walking 10 miles as part of Traffick Jam 2012 to help fight human trafficking in Cambodia.

We did it last year too. And we brought along the jogging stroller in case 5-year-old Nina couldn’t do the entire thing on foot. I think she walked a total of 1.5 miles.

This year we’re going stroller-less, and we’re going to need some extra prayers. We’re going to do some test runs on a 3.8-mile loop at a nearby park over the next few weeks. Because if you can walk 3.8 miles, you can walk 10, right?

We paid for our t-shirts and administrative fees ourselves, so every penny we raise will go toward The Hard Places Community in Cambodia. Punlok Thmey in particular. Punlok Thmey is the name of the Boys’ Center where we spent many, many hours in December and January loving on boys and getting lots of love back.

These sweet little guys are in danger, folks. Of being sold to foreigners for sex. Some of them have already been trafficked, some of them have been rescued, some are just at serious, serious risk. If you want more details, I kind of poured my guts out in this post.

My friend Kim (who I met in Cambodia) also wrote about these precious boys. And my friend Keri (whose family spent 8 days with our family in Cambodia) blogged some really helpful details about the funding the Boys’ Center needs.

Our first-tier goal is for each Taviano to get 10 people to sponsor us $1/mile. So $100 per walker x 5 = $500. But we’re dreaming even bigger than that, and we’d like to get $1000 as a family if we can.

If you’d like to sponsor one of us for $10, that would be awesome!! And if you want to give more, we won’t stop you.

You can donate directly on the Traffick Jam site via paypal or check. Or you can mail your check/cash to me, and I’ll mail them all in together. Just make sure you make the check payable to IOM (International Outreach Ministries). And if you donate directly through them, please let me know, so we can add you to our tally (and thank you accordingly!).

If you have any questions at all, please let me know, I’ll do my best to answer them.

And if you live in/near Columbus and want to walk with us, LET ME KNOW as soon as possible! We’d love to have you! And if you want to get a walk started in your own area, you can do that too! Even if you just walk 10 miles with 1 friend and get 10 people to sponsor each of you $1/mile, that’s $200 for these precious boys.

Let’s put our feet where our mouths are, friends. Or our 10-dollar bills. Or both.

Thank you in advance for being so awesome.

Donated $10 via PayPal just now! I wish we could join! That would be so much fun! But our weekends in April are already full! 🙁
