loving on cambodia

Happy Monday, friends! I’ll admit that I’m more than a little glad to put last week behind us and move on to a new one. But, wow, has God been gracious and merciful to us after Gabe’s heart attack. And I couldn’t be prouder of my husband for sticking to his low cholesterol/2000 mg daily sodium allowance without complaining (I had nooooo idea how much sodium is in EVERYTHING.).

He’s going (to try to go) back to work full-time tomorrow (Monday), so we’d love your prayers for strength and stamina. Thank you!

We’re pressing on, packing supplies, getting travel shots in a few days, believing we’ll be on that plane FIVE WEEKS from TODAY. From now until Cambodia is the same amount of time we’ll be in Cambodia. Craziness.

We’re busting at the seams with excitement. And we have an exciting way you can partner with us.

We already have 6 of our 10 suitcases filled up with supplies (and lots of healthy snacks we can eat whenever we need nourishment and food is inaccessible/unsafe). Several of you donated money specifically to buy supplies for the Boys Center, schools, and orphanages–thank you! And some of you actually sent us supplies–thank you! The rest we bought with money from our Cambodia Fund.

We have a few specific things we’d like to take that don’t quite fit in our budget, and we’d love to have some of you “sponsor” these items for us. We’ll even include a note from you to the recipients, so they can see how many people were involved in blessing them. We’ll do the actual buying, and you can either send us the money via paypal or check. Leave a comment or e-mail me if you’re interested in being a sponsor.

EDIT: All the books are taken care of! Woohoo!! (some gently used, some new) Thank you so much, friends!!

Books for Quenie, guest house owner/pastor’s wife/school founder:

Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Grade 5 ($13.50)

Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Grade 6 ($14.96)

Explode the Code 6.5 ($9.00)

Explode the Code 7.0 ($9.00)

Explode the Code 8.0 ($9.00)

*EDIT: I’m going to hold off on the Saxon stuff for now. My friend Beth is going to send me some gently used books, and if they match what we need, woohoo!!

*Saxon Math Intermediate 4 Student Edition ($63.40)

*Saxon Math Intermediate 4 Solutions Manual ($27.30)

*Saxon Math Intermediate 4 Workbook ($12.98)

*Saxon Math 7/6 Student Edition ($35.42)

*Saxon Math 7/6 Solutions Manual ($26.07)

*Saxon Math 7/6 Tests and Worksheets ($23.41)

If you’re passionate about education for kiddos, this is an awesome way to help. Narin and Quenie also have a scholarship fund for the poorest students who can’t afford to go to school, and they let them come for free. If you’re interested in making a donation to the scholarship fund, let me know.

The Rest of Our Wish List (for now)

Coconut M&Ms (I don’t need anyone to buy these. I just need to know where to find them! They’re a gift for a missionary friend.) Found ’em! Thank you!!

Spot It card game (we’d love 3 2 more at $11.98 each–this game is so stinking much fun, and our girls can’t wait to teach it to all the kiddos) Thanks, V!

She Has A Name t-shirts (we’d like to give away 4 to some very special people at $15.00 each)

I’ll be sharing a few things in the days/weeks to come–some fun activities we’re hoping to do with some amazing kiddos that we’d love your help with. I also want to give you the opportunity to do some vicarious fair trade shopping (you send me $ and I buy you awesome stuff made by some fabulous Cambodian women who have left/been rescued from the sex trade).

Thank you so much, friends, for being such a vital part of our ministry in Cambodia!

Hi Marla – I was at the retreat in Frankenmuth a coulple of weeks ago, and I have been reading your blog for a couple of years now, but I haven’t commented before. I love your heart and your willingness to share. I have 2 or 3 Low Sodium or Low Salt recipe books from a couple of years ago when my son had kidney problems. Would you like me to send them to you? I am praying for you, Gabe, your girls, and you trip to Cambodia.

We’re going to hand-deliver the money to them in cash, so you can just give it to me whenever. Or I can ask if they have a non-profit set up for it. Let me know. Thanks, Ellen!

I was getting the coconut m&m’s at Target, haven’t looked for them in a month or so though.

I have a few random items for the boys, and could do a financial contribution towards the books or needed items. I will need to wait until Friday for that one… job transitions mean interesting finances for a couple weeks… but Friday is payday 🙂

How about some gently used Saxon teacher materials? My friend has some that her children have already used and they take fabulous care of their things. I can pick them up Saturday and then mail them to you.
