freedom jewelry! {3/40}

krystenWelcome to Day 3 of our 40 Days of Birthday Gifts!

Who’s having fuuuuuuuuun?? (I am!)

(Congrats, Jennifer Martinez, winner of Jen’s beaded cross! The rest of you, go buy one!)

Today my beautiful friend, Krysten, of Fancy Freedom Designs is giving away one of her gorgeous handmade pieces of jewelry. Woohoooooo!

Krysten and I met ON THE INTERNET quite a few years ago, and she’s become one of my dearest real-life friends.

I featured her jewelry three years ago on my blog (and several other times since, because she is forever donating pieces for every cause I’ve ever promoted). Her business has come so far in three years. Grown bigger, gotten more awesome, brought more restoration to some precious women.

But her mission hasn’t changed: using her jewelry-making talents to fight for freedom.

“A lot of things can catch my attention,” she says, “but the thing I’m most passionate about is freedom in every form: freedom from shame, insecurity, debt, and the hold that our stuff sometimes has on us.”

You can read more about Krysten’s story here, but basically, God got her attention a few years ago when she heard about human trafficking for the first time. And she knew she wanted–NEEDED–to do something to help.

leather cuff“When I first started all this,” Krysten says, “I had the thought for a moment that it would just be easier to forget making jewelry to raise money, and just write a check myself to donate some.

But what I realized is that one piece of jewelry reaches much further than just creating a donation. Every time someone wears it, someone else can see it. It is unique enough to spark a conversation, and then there’s one more person who is aware of the problem.

And who knows…that could be one more abolitionist that joins the fight. That’s what I love…knowing that something so small could reach so far.”

Krysten gives at least 30% of her profits (and sometimes more) to an amazing organization in Columbus, Ohio called Freedom a la Cart. In a word, Freedom a la Cart is AWESOME. It started in 2009 as an organization called Doma, a community-based support program for adult survivors of human trafficking. And it has grown by leaps & bounds! (yes, there is human trafficking in Columbus, Ohio. and most likely in your city/town as well)

fancy“What was once a single food cart is now a bustling box lunch and full-service catering company, grown from the hearts and hard work of the women who sustain us. The 2014 merge of the Doma and Freedom a la Cart combined support services with social enterprise through one deliciously harmonious brand.

As these amazing women continue on their journey of rescue, rehabilitation and restoration – the ultimate path toward a triumphant return to society – the result couldn’t be more appetizing: Cause Cuisine.

To deliver a genuine culinary experience to our patrons, Freedom a la Cart creates fresh, flavorful food full of eclectic, unexpected choices. Whenever possible, we choose local sources for our ingredients, giving back to the community that gives so much to us.”

I’ve partaken of said cuisine several times and OH MY YUM. And Krysten is like a member of their extended family, sending them money & gifts & love, attending events they hold, and just offering encouragement to the women in any way she can. It’s beautiful to watch.

Speaking of beautiful to watch, I LOVE this story of how Krysten got involved in making jewelry to help fight human trafficking. Super inspiring. Makes me think (makes me know) we can all make a difference in the world.

Today, Krysten is giving away that gorgeous “live FREE & love” leather cuff bracelet up there to one lucky winner!

Here’s what you need to do to be entered to win:

1.) Go to Krysten’s Fancy Freedom Designs etsy shop and look around.

2.) Leave a comment telling me your favorite piece & a one-sentence “why.”

3.) Stay tuned, because Krysten will be back in a couple weeks with ANOTHER give-away (maybe the very item you like best!).

4.) Optional, but AWESOME: buy a piece or two from Krysten, knowing that you’re helping fight for freedom in a very practical, tangible way with your purchase.

Wouldn’t these pieces make AMAZING gifts for someone you love??

Thanks, friends! See you back here tomorrow with a special give-away from this talented gal!

This jewelry is beautiful!!! Seeing the Julie necklace almost made me cry b/c it instantly brought specific names to mind. Extremely powerful reminder of individuals I’ve worked with over the years in Cambodia whose lives have been forever changed through the power of His blood. Lives full of trauma that have been set free & redeemed. I love the Joy one too. It’s beautiful. It reminds me of a necklace I wear that says “awm-naw” (written in khmer script) which means “joy” in khmer.

  3. Shalla

Love this for so many reasons! I absolutely am so thankful for Doma and the catch program and what they are doing ever single day. I really like the Julie necklace that has a key and days Free. I am reminded that god has already unlocked that door for us. We were paid with a price so that we/I could be free!

  4. Bethany

I like the metal cuff bracelet that says don’t be afraid for I am with you. Fear and worry are two very big struggles for me and I love the reminder that God is with me every step of my journey.

  5. Rebekah

I really like the set free, made new bracelet. I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’m so glad that He is with me and I am new in Him. ❤️

  6. Kim

I like the Speak necklace. I often think of how in heaven people of all different languages will be able to communicate with each other.

  7. Amanda Pride

Love it all, really like the rugged cross…and that you custom design! Definitely going to get one of these for a Christmas gift! Appreciate being able to give a gift that keeps giving and has a MISSION behind it. Thanks for the work you are doing Krysten!

I like the Kae cuff bracelets. I think these bracelets will remind me to continually walk in the freedom that Christ has given me. That I don’t have to live in the bonds of my past. This is such an amazing idea, Marla! Not only are you showing such amazing generosity, but you are alerting us to amazing ways that we can support amazing artists committed to giving back 🙂

  9. Denise Layman

I like the ‘set free, made new’ cuff because it opens you up for a few different conversations!!
I also like the copper best dad collar stays!! Those are really neat!

  10. Deb

All are beautiful, but the speak necklace is my favorite. Such a good reminder about the power of words. I need that reminder every day.

  11. Sharon

I like the “give grace” Kae cuff bracelet. One, because it’s a good reminder to freely give the grace we’ve received and also because Grace is my daughter’s name and she’d get such a kick out of seeing her name on jewelry!

  12. Laura

(Can’t I like them all?!) I love the “love out loud” cuff bracelet. I don’t know Krysten personally, but a couple years ago you directed me to her to make a very special custom bracelet for my dear friend who lost her brother. It was beautiful and meant so much. 🙂

  13. Rachelle

Can I get two entries if I say it in Khmer ;)? I love love love the “Grace Does What We Cannot” bracelet because it’s so true and I wish more people would live by those words!

  14. Cheryl H

I love both the one for the giveaway and on etsy I love the rugged cross bracelet (it would also be super cool in brown) because it would remind me that my freedom is in Christ and He is with me every moment of every day. I am a survivor and He is my strength and joy and freedom!

  15. Steph J

I like so many of the products on her site. My favorite is the rugged cross leather cuff. It reminds me of all that Jesus has done for us by dying on the cross to save us from our sins. It’s a good thing to remember!

  16. Alexandra

I like the Grace bracelet. It allows me to explain Grace to anyone that may ask. It’s non-confrontational and opens up dialogue. Also, for practical reasons, my one year old can’t pull out off my neck and bust the chain. Thanks for sharing!

  17. Laura B

Rugged Cross Leather Bracelet….I love this! For us that have had a “rugged” life that only the cross can and does fix!

    1. Krysten

I like what you said here! It’s also why all of my jewelry designs are a little rough. I like the reminder that none of us are perfect, we have rough edges and imperfections, but we are still beautiful!

  18. Shannon

I love Fancy Freedom’s mission and jewelry! Since I have a bracelet from her, I will be buying a necklace soon. And she is right, every single time that I wear it, I think about what it means. I often tell people about it. It is a beautiful ministry.

    1. Krysten

Shannon this made my day! I pray over every single item I make… That the person wearing it would get the reminder they need from it and that others would see it and it would spark a conversation about God’s grace, freedom, and/or human trafficking. Thank you for sharing this comment!

  19. Arminda

This is beautiful! I love the “set free, made new” cuff too. That’s exactly how I feel in Christ. It just went on my wish list. 😉

  20. Amy

Beautiful pieces. I really like your leather cuffs and would have trouble choosing a style and a saying. Thank you for your work, Krysten!

  21. Rebecca

The soar necklace is my favorite. I have a fly to Jesus tattoo on my arm in memory of my Mom and it makes me think of her Soaring to Heaven. 💗

  22. Kristin Perry

My favorite piece is the Julie necklace, because it reminds me that people need deliverance from so many desperate things. I wore a key to remind me to pray for my brother when he was in jail, my sister when she was struggling with her heroin addiction; this would add another story to my freedom prayers.

I might have to get it. <3

    1. Krysten

All Kristins/Kristens/Krystens are good peeps, obviously 🙂
I just want to hug you after reading this comment. Keys are my jam. A beautiful symbol of freedom. Lovely reminder to pray for freedom for folks we love. ❤️

      1. Kristin Perry

Name solidarity for the win! And I will totally take that hug. 🙂 My little sister actually relapsed this past week, so words of deliverance and prayers for freedom have been on my lips and in my heart for days.

Thank you for the way you partner with Jesus to set the captives free. <3

  23. Krysten

Woohoo!!! I love being part of giveaways. Praying that this message of “Live Free & Love” makes it into just the right hands today! Y’all will absolutely adore this leather!

    1. Cheryl H

This is actually my favorite design. I love what you’re doing Krysten! I am a survivor and I work with trauma survivors in Chicago, it’s awesome to hear of your work with them in Ohio. Evil is everywhere, we need every Christian to be engaged and fighting. Thank you!!! 🙂

      (my entry is elsewhere)

      1. Krysten

So awesome, Cheryl! You’re an inspiration, girl! Thank you for opening your heart to others who have survived and begun to THRIVE! So much strength in sisterhood. Praying for both our cities to become symbols of freedom!
